Gefail Yr Ynys
The Gefail yr Ynys building is of historic importance as a forge and will be a key structure in the development of the Island site. The site is now closed in order that the development work can take place.
Working in collaboration with local makers, artists and just the plain curious, Addo aimed to open up the forge and metalworking facilities to a wide range of users by developing a programme events during Spring 2017- Spring 2018. Opportunities to get involved included short-courses, artist in residence, talks and seminars and open access sessions.
Some of the events included artists working collaboratively on short residencies. These included Llyr Erddyn Davies working alongside David Snoo Wilson a series of events that included bronze casting workshops and culminated in a performative metal poring event at the National Eisteddfod in August 2017. Artist Mike Murray produced sculptural zoetrope’s. He also collaborated with contemporary composer Robin Richards on a film which included work by Coleg Menai students. Robin created several new compositions some of which were performed at a live event at Gefail yr Ynys. Rita Ann Jones worked alongside Katie Surridge. Both artists are interested in re-appropriating objects to produce new sculptural forms.
Many blacksmithing demonstrations by Dylan Parry took place over the course of the year. Lots of people also had the opportunity to learn blacksmithing and metalworking skills on site.
